Beef Buyers: Claim Your Share of an $87.5 Million Settlement
If you've purchased beef in certain states from 2014 to 2019, you might be entitled to a portion of a massive settlement. Here's what you need to know:
Who's Eligible?
Millions of Americans who bought beef in 28 states (including Oregon and California, but not Washington) from August 2014 to December 2019 may be eligible. Only fresh or frozen "chuck, loin, rib, or round primal cuts" qualify.
Why the Settlement?
U.S. beef processors were accused of engaging in a price-fixing scheme to inflate beef prices. The settlement aims to compensate consumers for overcharges.
How Much Could You Get?
The exact amount varies, but only those who submit a claims form by June 30 will receive their share. You can submit online or by mail.
No Receipts Required!
You don't need receipts. Just attest to your monthly beef purchases, estimated pounds, and total spent.
The Lawsuit Details
Several companies were sued in a class-action lawsuit for conspiring to underpay ranchers and overcharge consumers. Tyson Foods and Cargill are contributing $55 million and $32.5 million, respectively.
What About Other Beef?
Ground beef, jerky, and processed meats don't qualify. Wagyu, USDA Prime, organic, and specialty beef (antibiotic-free, kosher, halal) are also excluded.
